The Issue

As a concerned resident of Fairport Harbor, OH, the safety of our community is my utmost priority. Daily, we witness a potentially dangerous situation developing at the

Location(s):

Intersection of Third Street and High Street

Intersection of East Street and Second Street

 It's not just a minor oversight or a rare occurrence — every day, multiple drivers fail to see or neglect to acknowledge the existing four-way stop sign.

The residents who navigate this intersection regularly know all too well the anxiety that comes with driving through or crossing these streets. Despite the presence of stop signs, there's a significant number of drivers who speed through this critical juncture, unaware of the risks they pose not only to themselves but to pedestrians and other drivers. This lack of acknowledgment and respect for the stop signs is a clear hazard, endangering every passerby and vehicle that approaches the area.

Our community has expressed a collective need for immediate action to ameliorate this safety concern. The installation of a flashing light at the stop sign or four-way flashing beacon lights is a feasible and necessary solution that will alert drivers to the intersection's presence and importance. Implementing such safety measures is neither extravagant nor unreasonable, especially when it has the potential to prevent accidents, injuries, or even fatalities.

Statistics indicate that adding flashing lights can reduce accidents by up to 40% at problematic intersections. With a simple yet effective solution like this, we can dramatically lower the risk of incidents and cultivate a safer environment for all.

We must come together as a community and urge the local authorities to hear our plea for action. Enhancing the visibility of stop signs with flashing lights will offer peace of mind and, most importantly, protect our community members from harm.

Please join me in calling for this crucial improvement. Sign the petition today and make our neighborhood a safer place for everyone.
