Request for smaller second grade class sizes at Glebe School

Request for smaller second grade class sizes at Glebe School
The Issue
Currently, three of the four first-grade classes at Glebe have 26 students each. Research consistently demonstrates that smaller class sizes are beneficial for children's educational outcomes, especially during the crucial early years of schooling. We'd note that the class size report for the 2025-2026 school year (which includes enrollment numbers from November 2025), notes that the target class size is 20 for first grade, and the max size is 24. (See the report here: https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/sites/57/2026/02/CSR-Revised-February-2026.pdf
Our goal is straightforward: advocate for the allocation of resources to hire an additional teacher for the upcoming second-grade classes. By taking this proactive step, we aim to redistribute students more evenly and bring down the class sizes to a more manageable number.
This petition calls upon the administration at Glebe Elementary School and the Arlington Public Schools district to recognize the need for this change and take the necessary steps to implement it.
We urge the school to prioritize our children’s future by planning strategically to accommodate smaller class sizes. Please consider signing this petition and supporting our cause.
