City of Courtenay: Request for Resignation due to Failure to Prioritize Resident Safety

City of Courtenay: Request for Resignation due to Failure to Prioritize Resident Safety
The Issue
Dear Mayor Wells, Council Member Frisch, and Council Member Jolicoeur,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to you today as a concerned resident of the City of Courtenay. It is with great regret and disappointment that I find myself compelled to request the immediate resignation of Mayor Bob Wells and Council Members David Frisch and Evan Jolicoeur due to their consistent failure to prioritize the safety of the residents of our beloved city.
Over the past months, the decisions and actions taken by your administration have left us vulnerable and exposed to increasing levels of crime, which has had a detrimental impact on the well-being and security of our community. The prioritization of homeless shelters, without adequate consideration for the associated risks and concerns, has resulted in a noticeable rise in criminal activities in our neighborhoods.
While the issue of homelessness requires compassion and support, it should not come at the expense of the safety and security of our residents. It is the responsibility of our elected officials to strike a balance between addressing the needs of the homeless population and safeguarding the well-being of all citizens. Unfortunately, your administration has failed to achieve this balance, and the consequences are evident in the escalating crime rates we are witnessing.
We have observed an increase in incidents such as theft, vandalism, and drug-related activities within our city. As residents, we feel helpless and neglected, with our concerns falling on deaf ears. The fundamental duty of a city council is to protect and serve its constituents, but it appears that the priorities of Mayor Wells and Council Members Frisch and Jolicoeur have been misplaced, disregarding the safety and tranquility that our community once enjoyed.
It is disheartening to witness the erosion of trust between the elected officials and the citizens they are meant to represent. We deserve leaders who will prioritize our safety, actively seek viable solutions, and address the concerns of the community with diligence and sincerity. Regrettably, the actions of Mayor Wells and Council Members Frisch and Jolicoeur have demonstrated a lack of understanding and responsiveness to the challenges we face.
In light of these circumstances, we, the undersigned residents, kindly request that Mayor Bob Wells, Council Member David Frisch, and Council Member Evan Jolicoeur tender their resignations with immediate effect. We believe that fresh leadership is essential to restore the security and well-being of our city, to address the root causes of homelessness, and to create an environment where all residents can thrive.
We hope you will consider our concerns seriously and take the necessary steps to rectify the situation promptly. Our city deserves strong and responsible leadership that places the safety and well-being of its residents at the forefront of decision-making. We trust that you will act in the best interests of the community and honor our request for the betterment of the City of Courtenay.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
