Request for Immediate Adoption of a Child Safety Zone Residency Restriction

Request for Immediate Adoption of a Child Safety Zone Residency Restriction

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Aledo and Parker County, Texas, urgently call upon our local officials to take immediate action to protect our children.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety's publicly available sex offender registry, a registered juvenile sex offender who was adjudicated for the sexual assault of a three-year-old child is expected to take up residence in our neighborhood—less than 250 feet from a licensed child daycare center in Aledo, Texas.

This situation demands immediate governmental intervention. While juvenile cases involve legal complexity, the age of the victim and severity of the offense necessitate heightened precaution. The community’s right to protect children in designated safety zones must take precedence when there is a clear and imminent risk of proximity-based trauma or exposure.

Why This Requires Immediate Action:

The individual is expected to move in imminently, or has already taken steps to do so.

The proposed residence is within a distance that would likely violate the intent of Texas law, which authorizes cities to restrict sex offenders from living within up to 1,000 feet of places where children gather.

No sufficient public notice, review process, or safety evaluation appears to have been conducted.

This urgent petition is not motivated by animosity, but by a shared responsibility to protect the children and families of Aledo.

Severity of the Offense

The individual in question was adjudicated in another state for the sexual assault of a three-year-old child—a crime that under Texas law would constitute Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, one of the most serious felonies under the Texas Penal Code. Offenses involving victims of such a young age are rare, highly traumatic, and classified as violent. While the offender was a juvenile at the time, the nature of the act reflects an extreme risk factor that warrants enhanced safety measures and full community awareness. It is not speculative—it is documented.

We Respectfully and Immediately Request That the City and County:

1. Immediately adopt and enforce a local ordinance under Texas Local Government Code § 341.906 to prohibit sex offenders from residing within 1,000 feet of schools, daycares, parks, and other child safety zones.

2. Apply these restrictions to all offenders whose crimes involved child victims, regardless of the offender’s age at the time of the crime.

3. Investigate whether the pending move violates any current zoning or public safety standards or whether additional emergency provisions can be enacted.

4. Publicly address the matter at the next available council and commissioner court sessions to provide transparency and offer residents a forum to voice their concerns.

Our Goal:

To urgently safeguard the wellbeing of children in Aledo by ensuring that sex offenders convicted of severe child-related crimes cannot reside within close proximity to child safety zones. This is a time-sensitive matter that calls for decisive, lawful action from our elected officials.
