The Citizens of Freeport, IL are in a crucial time when the city needs to make dramatic forward strides toward economic growth and stability, as well as providing a safe, equitable, and enjoyable community for everyone, regardless of economic standing, age, gender identity, ethnicity, spiritual beliefs, or where they've lived prior to becoming a resident of Freeport. In order for this goal to be successful, the City Council must work in harmony with each other, and the citizens.  

Alderman Monroe is a detriment to maintaining that harmony. Alderman Monroe has proven to be combative with citizens during their right to a public comment. This behavior, unbecoming of an elected official, borders uneasily on infringement of Freedom of Speech, as it deters others from utilizing the tool of public comment to communicate with the council members. Alderman Monroe is directly attacking citizens, via FOIA requests, in a witch hunt for reasons to get certain individuals fired from their jobs within FSD 145. He claims to have 33,000 emails that show some kind of collusion, yet won't produce them.   Alderman Monroe has also repeatedly been witnessed rudely paying attention to his phone during public comments from citizens. 

Update October, 2023:

James Monroe posted libelous comments in a public Facebook group about a Freeport citizen, accusing that person of using a fake name, as well as being a child sexual predator. James Monroe, hiding behind an alternate account, also posted defaming and personal information about two other Freeport citizens.  UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR FOR AN ELECTED OFFICIAL! 

Rather than wait until the next election for his seat on the council, We the Citizens of Freeport, IL ask for Alderman Monroe to do the ethical thing, and step down as Alderman of the 2nd Ward, and for the Freeport City Council to expel him from the council.
