We, the undersigned students of Adama Science And Technology University, respectfully present this petition requesting the expansion of Wi-Fi coverage across campus and the provision of free data packages for educational sites.

As one of the most prestigious and forward-thinking institutions, ASTU has always been committed to providing students with the best resources for academic success. Expanding internet access across the entire campus will further enhance the university’s reputation for fostering innovation and excellence in education.

In today's academic environment, reliable internet access is essential for student success. However, the current university Wi-Fi is limited to the library, which severely restricts our ability to access educational resources from our dormitories, classrooms, and other areas of the campus. Additionally, students face challenges in accessing important online resources off-campus, impacting the quality of our education.

 

We kindly request that the university take the following actions:

 

 1. Expand Wi-Fi Coverage Across Campus

- Increase the number of Wi-Fi access points in key areas, including dormitories, classrooms, and common outdoor spaces, ensuring consistent internet access across the entire campus.

- Upgrade the university’s bandwidth to accommodate the growing number of students using the internet for research, lectures, and online courses.

Impact: This will allow students to study, collaborate, and conduct research more effectively, without being restricted to specific locations like the library.

2. Provide Free Data Packages for Educational Sites

- Partner with local mobile network providers to offer students free or subsidized data packages that allow access to educational websites and platforms.

- Work with telecom companies to zero-rate access to essential educational resources, ensuring that students can access these platforms without incurring mobile data charges.

Impact: Free data packages for educational sites will ensure that all students, especially those living off-campus or in areas with limited Wi-Fi access, can continue to engage in their studies without worrying about data costs.

Why This Matters:

- Access to Learning Materials: Many academic resources, including research papers, online lectures, and class notes, are only available online. Expanding Wi-Fi coverage will ensure that all students have equal access to these materials.

- Equity: Free data packages for educational sites will reduce inequality by helping students who cannot afford high-cost mobile data plans, ensuring everyone has access to the same resources.
