Request for a Four-Way Stop Installation at the Intersection of Malsum Dr. and Salal Dr.
The Issue
Dear Tsleil-Waututh Nation,
On behalf of the families and residents of Seymour Village: 3595 Salal Dr. & 3596 Salal Dr., we are writing to respectfully request the installation of a four-way stop at the corner of Malsum Dr. and Salal Dr. (location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/s1jknJ1T5X8zawAg7) As a growing and close-knit community, we take great pride in fostering a safe environment for everyone who lives and visits here. However, the current two-way stop at this intersection has become increasingly concerning due to fast-moving vehicles, blind spots, and the rising density in our neighbourhood. In addition to the four-way stop, adding traffic calming bumps (similar to Ravenswood Dr) would support the slowing of traffic through this area.
This intersection is a central route for children walking to school, biking with friends, and playing outdoors. In addition, the area is home to active wildlife, including bears and coyotes, which are frequently seen navigating through the neighbourhood. Ensuring a safer traffic flow would not only protect residents but also help mitigate risks for wildlife crossing roads, fostering a respectful coexistence with the natural environment.
Many of us have experienced near misses or moments of unease, and we fear that without action, a serious accident could occur. By converting this intersection into a four-way stop, we can slow traffic, improve visibility, and ensure that safety remains at the heart of our community.
As a community that deeply values connection, care, and harmony with nature, we are united in our commitment to making this change to protect everyone—our children, our elders, our wildlife, and all who share this space. We hope you will consider this request as part of our collective effort to create a safer, stronger neighbourhood for all.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we are happy to work collaboratively to bring this improvement to our community.
Sincerely,
Residents of Salal Dr., Seymour Village
