As a lifelong resident of Southwest Virginia, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges and frustrations faced by our community. We have tirelessly advocated for our needs and voiced our concerns, yet consistently, we have been met with neglect and empty promises by those in power within the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Virginian who feels deceived and disregarded by these repeated failures to address our region's needs, it is time for us to seek serious change.

It's no secret that disparities exist between Southwest Virginia and other regions of the Commonwealth. Our voices go unheard, and our needs are left unmet. The socio-economic divide is evident, as our region struggles with insufficient infrastructure, education, and healthcare resources compared to the more developed areas of Virginia. Despite contributing significantly to the state's economy through our industries and resources, Southwest Virginia has not received its fair share of consideration and support needed for sustainable growth and development.

Recognizing this persistent injustice, we are requesting the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors to seriously consider the formation of a new state, or the realignment of Southwest Virginia outside the Commonwealth of Virginia. By actively exploring this option, we can ensure that the voices and needs of our community are acknowledged, respected, and prioritized. Forming a new state or realigning our region will bring autonomy to make decisions that truly reflect the interests of Southwest Virginia.

This change will allow us to enhance our economic development, improve regional infrastructure, and ensure adequate education and healthcare services, leading to a brighter future for all residents in Southwest Virginia.

We need real action and real solutions—not just promises. We call upon our neighbors, leaders, and all who care about the prosperity and welfare of Southwest Virginia to support this petition. It’s time to break free from neglect and chart a course toward a promising future.
