The Issue
As a passionate motorcyclist and a member of the biking community, I urge the government to reconsider the current limitations on higher CC bikes using major flyovers in Electronic City, the airport route, and potentially the Mysore Road. Many of us rely on these thoroughfares for daily commutes and leisure rides, yet our access is restricted due to current policies.
The existing restrictions create unnecessary detours, leading to increased travel time, higher fuel consumption, and greater environmental impact. Higher CC bikes, often unfairly marginalized, have modern safety features and emissions compliance that make them suitable for highway travel. These bikes are no more intrusive or dangerous than any other vehicle allowed on these roads.
Globally, even high-performance motorcycles are allowed on primary roads, showcasing their integration into urban transport systems. Our request is not unique, but one supported by international practice and local necessity. By granting higher CC motorcycles the same concessions as other vehicles, the government will support urban mobility, reduce congestion on alternative routes, and optimize the use of our existing infrastructure.
Statistics show that motorcycles, including those with higher engine capacities, contribute to less road congestion than cars and improve urban air quality when used responsibly. By encouraging the use of motorcycles on these flyovers, the authorities will be promoting a greener, more efficient mode of transport compatible with sustainable urban planning.
We propose the implementation of a trial period where higher CC motorbikes are permitted on these flyovers under certain conditions, such as adherence to speed limits and mandatory safety gear for riders. This would allow for data collection on the impact of this policy change and demonstrate its benefits.
