Demand Theological Clarification: Iran's Foreign Ministry Must Correct Statement Comparing Ayatollah Khamenei to Imam Hussain (p.)

During recent funeral arrangements in Tehran, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson made a comparison that has raised serious concerns among Islamic scholars and believers worldwide. He stated that Ayatollah Khamenei would be remembered as a "second Imam Hussain" (peace be upon him)—the Master of Martyrs and one of Islam's most revered figures.

While we deeply respect and honour Ayatollah Khamenei's legacy and service, *this comparison creates a significant theological problem* that demands public clarification from the Iranian government.

In Islamic tradition, the Imams of the Ahlul Bayt (Household of the Prophet) hold a unique, infallible spiritual status that cannot and should not be attributed to fallible human beings—regardless of their political prominence or historical contributions. This distinction is foundational to both Shia and broader Islamic theology.

*The late Ayatollah himself repeatedly emphasised this principle in his own teachings*, expressing that his life and efforts could not be compared even to the dust upon the shoes of those who served Imam Hussain.

WHY WE'RE ESCALATING TO PUBLIC PETITION

A formal letter requesting clarification was sent directly to both:
- *Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs*
- *The Office of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei*

*We received no response.*

This petition represents our escalation to public advocacy. We sought resolution through proper diplomatic channels. We were met with silence. Believers worldwide deserve to know where their government and religious leadership stand on a matter of basic theological integrity.

THE THEOLOGICAL PROBLEM

The Imams of the Ahlul Bayt hold an infallible, unmatchable spiritual station in Islamic theology. No fallible human being—regardless of accomplishments or respect—can be theologically equated with them.

Ayatollah Khamenei himself repeatedly taught this principle. He emphasised that his own life and efforts could not be compared even to the dust upon the shoes of those who served Imam Hussain.

This is not disrespect to Ayatollah Khamenei. It is disrespect to the theological framework he himself championed—and it causes confusion and spiritual distress among believers who understand the fundamental distinction between political respect and theological status.

WHAT WE'RE ASKING

We call on *Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs* to issue a formal public clarification:

*Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei's statement that Ayatollah Khamenei will be remembered as a "second Imam Hussain(p.)" contains a theological error that must be corrected.*

This comparison contradicts:
- Islamic theological doctrine regarding the infallibility of the Imams
- The late Ayatollah's own repeated teachings on this distinction
- The respect due to both Ayatollah Khamenei and Imam Hussain by maintaining clear theological boundaries

We demand the Ministry publicly clarify that no fallible human being—however respected or historically significant—can be theologically equated with the infallible Imams of the Ahlul Bayt. This is not disrespect to Ayatollah Khamenei. It is fidelity to his own theology.

WHY THIS MATTERS

When a government official makes a theological claim during sensitive commemorations, believers deserve clarity. The comparison Baghaei made is not a minor rhetorical flourish—it's a theological statement with real consequences for Islamic understanding and community unity.

*We gave Iran's leadership a chance to respond through proper diplomatic channels.* They did not. 

Now this falls to the global Muslim community to demand accountability. A simple, formal clarification restores:
- Theological precision
- Confidence in Iran's religious messaging  
- The integrity of the distinction Ayatollah Khamenei himself upheld

This is a straightforward ask. No politics. No hidden agenda. Just theological accuracy. And it deserves a response.
