I am calling for a televised debate between gubernatorial candidates Marsha Blackburn and Jerri Green so we can hear their plans and visions for Tennessee firsthand.
For many of us, this election isn't just about political preferences—it's about our homes, our schools, and our healthcare systems. I've lived in Tennessee all my life, and just like you, I want a governor who will address the issues that affect us every day. We need transparency and clarity on their plans for education, public safety, and economic growth. Only through a direct debate can we scrutinize their platforms and judge who is truly fit to lead.
Statistics show that voters who are exposed to debates are more likely to make informed decisions. The 2020 Presidential debates, as reported by Nielsen, had over 63 million viewers for the final debate alone, highlighting how critical these platforms are for voter education. As engaged citizens, we deserve the same level of engagement and insight into the policies and priorities of our potential state leaders.
A televised debate would provide a platform for these candidates to address urgent issues, such as the opioid crisis, rural healthcare access, and education system challenges in our state.
