The Issue

We, the residents of Avery Terrace in Happy Valley, Oregon, are urging a formal review of the current school boundary assignment that impacts our neighborhood. It's perplexing to many of us that, although our homes are nestled within Happy Valley in Clackamas County, our addresses are currently designated under the Centennial School District. Our community, by proximity and in spirit, aligns much more closely with the North Clackamas area.

Families in our neighborhood have faced frustrations and confusion due to this boundary assignment. The feeling of disconnect stems from the fact that many of our community activities, local friendships, and day-to-day interactions center around the North Clackamas locality. This isn't just about administrative lines; it's about community, belonging, and the well-being of our children.

Happy Valley's infrastructure, services, transportation links, and community events are designed to cater to families living within the North Clackamas School District. By reassigning Avery Terrace to North Clackamas, we believe it will strengthen community ties and offer a more cohesive and supportive educational environment for our children.

Statistics show that children perform better in educational settings when they experience a unified community culture and attend schools that promote the same local pride and spirit they experience at home. Moreover, transportation logistics would become smoother for many families, reducing travel times and environmental footprint.

We propose a comprehensive review of the school boundaries to better reflect the geographical realities and community affiliations. This action would foster stronger community involvement, align educational resources with local needs, and ensure that Avery Terrace is treated as an integral part of Happy Valley, not an outlier.

We implore the decision-makers in the Clackamas County and Centennial School District to consider the real-life implications of these boundaries on our community. By doing so, they will support not only the seamless integration of Avery Terrace into the local community but also open new opportunities for our children's educational success.

We urge all residents of Avery Terrace and those who understand the value of aligned community-school dynamics to support us by signing this petition. Your signature can help make a difference by advocating for a school boundary that genuinely reflects our community's needs and spirit. Please join us in this important cause.
