The Issue
As a member of the Fincastle community, I’ve always been proud to call this place my home. Like many others here, I’ve watched families grow, and cherished every moment within our vibrant neighborhood. Recently, however, the Fincastle Board of Trustees enacted a new rule that threatens the harmony and financial well-being of our community. This rule raises the equity and surcharge for members to $10,000, requiring current members to come up with the difference to transfer.
This sudden financial demand is not just a mere inconvenience; it poses a direct threat to the financial stability of many members, especially our growing families and the elderly who may need to transition to a one-level unit. For some, the prospect of shouldering this unexpected financial burden is daunting, potentially forcing them to contemplate leaving a community they've lived in and loved for years.
Moreover, this rule was implemented against our bylaws and contract, ignoring the voices and concerns of the members it impacts the most. Our governing documents were designed to protect us, ensuring decisions are made transparently and with our best interests at heart. The imposition of this rule without proper consultation or a vote flouts these principles and sets a dangerous precedent for our community’s governance.
We urge the Fincastle Board of Trustees to meet with the community and facilitate a vote on this rule. We deserve the right to have our voices heard, to engage in an open dialogue about our collective future, and to preserve the financial integrity of every member in our community.
By signing this petition, you support our call for a fair and transparent decision-making process that respects both the letter and spirit of our community agreements. Let us unite to protect the rights of all Fincastle members and ensure that no one is unfairly burdened by changes that contradict our established principles. Please join me in calling for an equitable solution that upholds the spirit of community we've all grown to treasure by signing this petition.
