Request a feasibility study for A1A Bicycle Safety Project
The Issue
The need for Bicycle safety has never been more pressing, especially in rapidly growing areas such as Daytona Beach. The A1A corridor from International Speedway Boulevard to Seabreeze Boulevard is a heavily trafficked area that represents both a critical route for cyclists and a significant risk zone due to current infrastructure limitations.
By conducting a formal technical feasibility review of the proposed A1A Bicycle Safety Demonstration Project, we aim to ensure the utmost safety for cyclists and foster a more bike-friendly community. This review is essential to identifying not only the specific challenges and potential modifications necessary to improve safety, but also to establish the roadmap toward securing the required funding and executing the implementation plan should the project prove feasible.
It’s crucial that the City of Daytona Beach, FDOT District Five, and Volusia-Flagler TPO collaboratively examine the feasibility of this project. Reports from the Florida Department of Transportation highlight an urgent need for enhancements in cycling infrastructure to reduce accidents and fatalities. Prior studies and pilot projects have shown that proper bike lanes and safety regulations significantly decrease the risk to cyclists and encourage more environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
Successful implementation of this project could set a benchmark not only for Daytona Beach but for similar urban centers facing challenges in balancing vehicle traffic and bicycle safety. Moreover, improved bicycle infrastructure can lead to broader community health benefits, reduced traffic congestion, and lower carbon emissions.
We urge these authorities to prioritize this feasibility study to evaluate the economic and social benefits against potential costs, and to formulate a plan that addresses the need for increased safety measures. Your support can make all the difference. Please sign this petition to advocate for crucial studies that will guide the future of our community’s transportation infrastructure. Let's make Daytona Beach a safer, greener, and more inclusive place for all its residents.
