Jong-woo Son, a 24-year-old operator of the largest child sexual exploitation market by volume of content, has served 18 months in South Korean prison, his time ending in April 2020.

The South Korean Court is mulling extradition on Son, the decision will be made on July 6th. 

The USA federal grand jury has indicted Son on 9 charges of money laundering, and advertising and distributing child pornography among others. Son's father sued his son for money laundering and defamation in an attempt to prevent Son's extradition. If Son gets trialed in South Korea, he can't be trialed again in the USA as no legal action can be instituted twice for the same cause of action. Son can receive max 20 years in prison for money laundering alone, whereas in Korea it will be a maximum of 5 years. 

Son exclusively advertised child sexual exploitation videos of approximately eight terabytes, 45 percent of the videos analyzed containing images that have not been previously known to exist. The youngest victim is known to be a 6-month old infant. 

In the initial trial, Son was ordered a two-year suspended prison term with three years probation, keeping him out of jail. In his High Court trial, Son was ordered to serve an 18-month prison term, South Korean judicial system being notoriously "soft" on sex offenders.
