In the past, the lowland gorilla's habitat included road less blocks of forest where hunting access was difficult. However, since the increase in timber extraction which opened up the forest areas, it provided hunters with simple access to the gorillas habitat. Timber being a major export in central Africa, caused vast areas of rain forest in the the Congo Basin to have been destroyed or leased out to logging companies some of which are illegal.  This resulted in an increase in poaching and deforestation causing a population decrease of more than 80% over three generations! The Western Lowland Gorillas are now labeled critically endangered and need your help! With the current conservation efforts the population is slowly increasing, however, to ensure the population increase action must be taken.
