The Issue

The "Unstuck and On Target" program, while good in theory, has not been useful for the school community due to how it takes away students' work time in order to teach skills that most students have already developed.  The program teaches executive functioning skills such as compromise and planning to Morey Middle School 7th and 8th graders during the seminar morning block on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

By 7th and 8th grade, most students have already developed these skills and have integrated them into their daily lives. Due to the fact that the program teaches these already developed skills, it becomes practically useless to students, and creates a loss of work time in the morning.

Most students will have at least some work from their core classes to complete outside of the class period, and the integration of this program takes away a large portion of the already small amount of seminar work time.

This petition proposes that the Tuesday & Thursday "Unstuck and On Target" program be replaced by study hall in order to provide a more productive and useful morning seminar block to 7th and 8th grade students at Morey Middle School.

Signatures are greatly appreciated, and comments expressing your frustration help emphasize the goal of this petition.
