In March 2019, Sears closed their store at Mall of America as part of a plan to close 80 stores nationwide. The store had operated at Mall of America for approximately 27 years prior to its closure, and the anchor space has been sitting vacant for 3 years and as of now there are no plans to redevelop the space.

It is in my personal opinion that Von Maur should take over the former Sears anchor at Mall of America.

For those not familiar with Von Maur, it is an upscale department store chain based out of Davenport, Iowa. With 36 locations, the chain primarly operates in the Midwestern United States, although it has one store in Upstate New York and has one store coming soon to Western Pennsylania opening in the former Sears anchor space at South Hills Village Mall in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

For these reasons, Von Maur belongs at Mall of America.
