We, the undersigned residents and users of Victoria Park, Finchley Central, request that Barnet Council replace the current open-access litter bins with wildlife-resistant enclosed bins.

For a considerable period, rubbish has been regularly scattered throughout the park despite daily cleaning by the park maintenance team. The issue is particularly noticeable around litter bins, where waste is frequently found spread across grassed areas, pathways and seating areas.

While some litter may be caused by irresponsible park users, a significant proportion appears to result from foxes, birds and other wildlife accessing rubbish through the large openings in the existing bins and pulling waste onto the ground.

As a result:

• The park frequently appears untidy and neglected.

• Plastic, food packaging and other waste are spread across green spaces used by residents, children and dog walkers.

• Wildlife can become exposed to harmful litter.

• Council resources are repeatedly used to clean the same areas without addressing the root cause.

• Residents continue to experience the same problem despite regular maintenance efforts.

The current situation is neither environmentally responsible nor cost-effective.

We therefore ask Barnet Council to:

Review the suitability of the current litter bins throughout Victoria Park.

Replace existing bins with enclosed wildlife-resistant bins designed to prevent access by foxes, birds and other animals.

Consider increasing bin capacity in high-use areas if required.

Consult local residents regarding long-term solutions to improve cleanliness within the park.

Victoria Park is a valued community space and deserves a permanent solution rather than repeated daily clean-up of the same preventable problem.

We respectfully request that Barnet Council take action to protect the cleanliness, appearance and enjoyment of Victoria Park for all residents.
