Mississippi is a state renowned for its contributions to art, literature, music, and history—a true melting pot of cultures and traditions. However, the current statues of Jefferson Davis and James Z. George (2 figures associated with the failed Confederate States of America) DO NOT embody the vibrant culture of our state or the spirit of inclusivity. Several Southern states have been able to change their statues in recent years to more representative figures.

This petition seeks to raise awareness of this disparity and advocate for meaningful change. By signing, you are expressing your support for replacing these outdated monuments with statues that genuinely represent the diverse identity, culture, and history of our state.

Together, we can urge our legislators to prioritize public monuments that honor the many facets of Mississippi’s rich heritage. Stand with us to bring about a more inclusive and accurate representation. Please sign this petition and help us move toward a future that celebrates all Mississippians.

Currently, there is legislation (SB 2001) that can be supported by YOU, the people of Mississippi. This piece of legislation looks to create the National Statuary Hall Selection Commission to study and make recommendations for the selection of TWO new Historic Figures to represent Mississippi in the National Statuary Hall at the US Capitol. The aim of this bill would be to select Mississippians who reflect the current demographic of the state as a whole.
