Cindy Hyde-Smith, born in 1959, is an American politician and farmer who has been serving as the junior United States Senator from Mississippi since 2018. A member of the Republican Party, she has a distinguished political career, beginning with her role as a member of the Mississippi State Senate from 2000 to 2012. Following her tenure in the state senate, she served as the Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce. Hyde-Smith is notable for being the first woman to represent Mississippi in Congress. She holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and an Associate's degree from Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Hyde-Smith has consistently maintained her political affiliation with the Republican Party throughout her career.
