The Issue

When I sit down for lunch at school, I often find myself facing an unnecessary struggle: getting a simple cup of water. Each day, I'm forced to ask multiple times just to quench my thirst, when it seems so simple for water to be made available right alongside our meals.

Currently, school cafeterias mostly offer milk as the primary beverage option during lunch. While milk is undoubtedly nutritious, it doesn't always suit everyone's needs or dietary preferences. Many students, like myself, prefer water or may have intolerances that make milk less desirable. Access to water is essential for staying hydrated, especially after activities or in warmer weather.

Several studies support the notion that encouraging water consumption over sugary or high-calorie drinks can significantly improve students’ overall health and concentration levels. Providing water could also help alleviate any issues students face with lactose intolerance. Importantly, making water more accessible can promote healthy habits that students carry into adulthood.

Simple steps can make a significant difference. Schools can offer water bottles or install water fountains in the cafeteria area to make sure every student has easy access to fresh, clean water during mealtime.

By signing this petition, you're supporting a simple, yet impactful change. Together, we can enhance our school environments to promote health and wellbeing by making water readily available to all students at lunch. Let's remove the unnecessary barrier of having to repeatedly request water and ensure that one of our most basic needs — hydration — is met without compromise. Sign now to advocate for water in our school cafeterias.
