The Issue

I care deeply about non-commercial radio being the last bastion for free independent voices and introducing new styles and formats of music. WBER, once known for being that voice (or at least, the "only station that matters), has rested on its laurels by not changing over management, not allowing new voices to lead their music library, and by taking back from a community far more than they offer it. I think that's because the same voices have been in place for too long, namely Joey Guisto, the station manager for 25 years.

WBER is a non-commercial radio station that has historically provided an essential platform for independent artists and eclectic sounds, fostering a rich tapestry of music that is otherwise unrepresented in mainstream media. However, in recent years, the station seems to have lost its way. With stagnant management and a reluctance to evolve, evidenced by the continued tenure of Joey Guisto, it fails to fulfill the dynamic, ever-changing needs of our community and burgeoning musical landscapes.

The lack of new leadership at WBER has stifled creativity and innovation, which should be the lifeblood of non-commercial radio. In the fast-paced music industry, where new genres and artists emerge daily, a fresh perspective is crucial. A rotation or introduction of new management would invite younger, diverse voices and ideas, genuinely reflecting the ethos and spirit of what WBER once represented—a haven for music exploration and discovery.

Moreover, community engagement has dwindled, reflecting the station's withdrawal from the very audience it was designed to serve. Our community deserves a radio station that is responsive, inclusive, and genuinely interested in reflecting a a broader spectrum of musical tastes. It is time for WBER to align itself with these values once more.

Replacing Joey Guisto with someone who embodies the forward-thinking, progressive spirit needed to reinvigorate WBER would not only revitalize the station but also re-establish its role as a critical voice in the local and regional music and radio scene. We need to demand change for the future of WBER.

Sign this petition to join us in calling for the replacement of Joey Guisto as the station manager at WBER. Let's bring back the vibrant and pioneering essence of non-commercial radio. Your signature can help restore WBER's potential to inspire and thrive in today's diverse music world.
