Replace City Ordinance to Permit Keeping Chickens

Replace City Ordinance to Permit Keeping Chickens
The Issue
As a local resident deeply concerned about the expensive cost of meat and eggs, I believe it's time for our town to rethink its restrictions on keeping chickens.
Everyone should have the right to cultivate their own food source, thereby promoting sustainability and easing financial burdens. The continuous price hike in meat and eggs (source: Bureau of Labour Statistics) necessitates the urgent review of policies that limit our capabilities to provide for ourselves.
A much-needed change is the replacement of the current city ordinance prohibiting the keeping of chickens. Chickens serve dual purposes – they provide fresh eggs, and they also contribute to the natural cycle of our ecosystem by offering organic pest control and producing rich fertilizer for our gardens (source: Modern Farmer).
There's a global trend towards urban homestealing, and countless cities across the U.S. have successfully revised their laws to permit citizens to keep chickens in their backyards (source: American Planning Association).
It's high time our city embraces this self-providing and sustainable lifestyle as well, and amends its laws accordingly. Sign this petition seeking an amendment to our city ordinance. Enable us, your local citizens, to establish our own sources of fresh, organic food, which will in turn significantly reduce the cost of living and facilitate a more sustainable way of life.
