Replace and Relocate Speed Bumps on South 20th Street for Safer Streets

Replace and Relocate Speed Bumps on South 20th Street for Safer Streets
The Issue
Our neighborhood has always been a safe haven for our children, a place where they can play outside without fear. However, in the past 3 to 4 years, we've noticed an alarming increase in speeding traffic on South 20th Street between Avon Avenue and Clinton Avenue. This is the same time many of our residents’ smaller children are playing outside during the day. The speed bump at 863 So. 20th Street isn't doing enough to slow down vehicles, putting our children at risk.
The rise in traffic can be attributed to the barricades placed on Hopkins Street and Montgomery Avenue which have diverted more cars down South 20th Street. More cars mean more chances of speeding vehicles that could potentially lead to accidents.
We propose removing the existing speed bump at 863 So. 20th Street and replacing it with two new ones at strategically chosen locations - one at 887 S. 20th street and another further down based on required distance regulations.
By doing this, we believe we can better manage traffic flow and reduce speeding incidents significantly, making our streets safer for everyone but especially for our children who deserve a secure environment to grow up in.
Join us as we petition Newark City Council to take immediate action towards this cause – because every child's safety matters! Please sign this petition today!
