Replace Amplify from the Fremont Unified School District

The Issue

Amplify needs to be replaced from the Amplify school district or heavily reworked. I have talked to a lot of people about Amplify, and if it is good or not and I have not heard a single person say that they like Amplify. The main problems of Amplify boil down to it being repetitive, taking too long to teach a bit of information, and not leaving people with a good sense of understanding. There are multiple ways to fix these issues.

To fix the problem of Amplify being repetitive is to teach more information. As the program repeats the same 3 questions over and over again and it gets extremely boring and useless. So make the units shorter so it isn't as repetitive, or a better solution would be to expand the units to teach more information to go deeper into the topics. This would make it so there are more questions and information so it would be a lot less repetitive.

For Amplify to be able to teach more information in the same time frame, I propose a better textbook to be added to an improved workbook. While the current "discover it yourself" system might work for some sections, it shouldn't be the only system. Instead there should also be a part where you need to read a textbook to learn the necessary information, which should also be on the test. We should still keep some of the discovery aspects as it does teach the scientific method in a simplified format, but they should also provide the correct answer, as currently you don't know if what you are doing is even right. This would also make people have a better understanding of the topics.

For people to have a better understanding while teaching more information there should be better practice. We should have practice for the tests and have questions after the reading of the textbook to make sure you understand. The tests should also have better questions, as right now the tests just have the same couple of questions, just repeated over and over again. Instead we should have many different questions to actually adequately test students, and how much they know.

In conclusion Amplify should get replaced or heavily reworked if it is to continue to be the science program in Fremont Unified School District. Please sign this petition if you also agree, every signature counts!

FAQ:

200 votes isn't enough. Why did you put it as the goal?

There isn't enough money in the school district. How do you expect this to happen?

We do not know the money management in the school district, but there is always a way, it is just a matter of their priorities.
