The Issue

I believe phone bans are a threat to student safety and rights of personal property, especially for adults. Schools should have the right to choose whether to ban phones themselves or not, making it law can lead to oppression statewide of many rights regarding personal property, in Caldwell Parish, the first offense for disobeying this law can result in a choice for the phone to be confiscated for 20 days or a fine of 50$! This is an issue, because if a student is being bullied there is almost no way to document this safely. especially when most bullying happens in classrooms without cameras. Louisiana schools (and schools all across the USA) are not safe enough for students to not have this ability to document. And in cases of school mass shooting how will students be able to call police? Call their loved ones because it may be there last time talking to them. this is a real issue and a threat to our liberty. I mean we say the pledge of allegiance every morning in school yet our “Liberty And Justice For All” is being stripped in the very place we recite such words.
