Repeal the Liferide Program in Broken Arrow, OK

Repeal the Liferide Program in Broken Arrow, OK
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma,
request the immediate repeal of the mandatory LifeRide program. The LifeRide fee unfairly forces residents to subsidize medical costs for others, regardless of their personal financial situation or healthcare coverage.
Concerns About the Program:
1. Unfair Financial Burden – The mandatory fee forces residents to pay for others’ medical expenses (including non residents if they work in Broken Arrow), regardless of their ability to opt out.
2. Violation of Personal Choice – Before July 2023, residents could opt out, but now the city requires participation, removing individual freedom.
3. Double Taxation Issues – The city already collects sales tax for emergency services, yet residents must now pay an additional mandatory fee.
4. Mismanagement of Funds – The LifeRide program previously operated at a deficit, partly due to the city writing off medical costs instead of billing those who actually use the ambulance service. If the city properly billed users instead of forcing all residents to pay, the deficit could be removed without unfair mandatory fees.
We Demand the repeal of Ordinance No. 3794, eliminating the LifeRide mandatory fee.
- The restoration of the opt-out option or discontinuation of Liferide for Broken Arrow residents.
- A public hearing allowing residents to voice concerns and propose alternatives.
Sign this petition to support fair and transparent policies for emergency medical services in Broken Arrow.
