My grandparents purchased the land I live on over 60 years ago. My grandmother had a small barn built specifically for her chickens. This property, originally in the township, is now zoned as city land due to urban expansion. Unfortunately, this change has brought with it a city ordinance that prohibits backyard chickens - an ordinance that directly conflicts with my family's long-standing tradition and use of our land.

Backyard chickens not only provide fresh eggs but also contribute to sustainable living practices by reducing food waste and producing natural fertilizer. According to the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, one chicken can biologically break down about seven pounds of food residuals in a month (University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension).

This petition aims at repealing this restrictive ordinance in Boscobel, WI. By doing so, we would be preserving local traditions while promoting sustainability and self-sufficiency among residents.
