The Issue

I moved to this neighborhood because I believed in its charm and character. Never was I given input nor was I aware that the City Council had proposed a Bill to rezone my neighborhood. Ordinance 2024-256-E is set to change the very fabric of our community by lowering the width of properties and allowing developers to build cottages on small lots.

This ordinance threatens the very essence of our community, altering the neighborhood's look and feel. Jacksonville, with its rich tapestry of neighborhoods, should remain true to its roots, where residents have space to breathe and live comfortably. The smaller lot sizes and densely packed cottages undermine the community spirit and threaten to erode property values, not to mention the strain on infrastructure and local amenities.

Furthermore, the residents, primary stakeholders in this community, were not involved in the discussions nor sufficiently informed. Many of us found out only after the fact, feeling blindsided by a decision that affects our daily lives and future.

When decisions like rezoning are made, it is crucial that they reflect the desires and needs of the community rather than prioritizing developer interests. This ordinance prioritizes profit over people, and that is not acceptable.

We call on the Jacksonville City Council to take immediate action to repeal Ordinance 2024-256-E and revisit this issue with genuine community engagement and consideration. A fair process includes transparency and participation, ensuring development decisions serve the common good, not just the interests of a few.

Sign this petition to stand together against unwanted changes and protect the integrity of our neighborhood. Let our voices be heard by those in power. Together, we can preserve the charm and character of our community for future generations. Please sign and share this petition.
