Repeal Galt's Ordinance Prohibiting Parking of RVs and Boats in Private Driveways

The Issue

The Galt city ordinance that outlaws parking of RVs, boats, and trailers in private driveways is outdated and unnecessary. We believe that people should have the freedom to park their vehicles on their own property, as long as it does not bring blight or hazards to their neighborhood. This regulation unnecessarily infringes upon our personal rights and liberties, especially considering there is no statistical evidence that indicates parking such vehicles in driveways contributes to neighborhood decay. There are other ordinances and tools available to city leaders to prevent property owners from allowing their property to bring blight or hazards that would affect other residents and property owners.

We understand the need to maintain a clean and orderly cityscape, but the direct impact of this rule on responsible property owners is not only unfair, but it's also unsupported by data. Instead, this ordinance unduly punishes us, the proud owners of RVs, boats and trailers, who, besides enjoying our hobbies, take care of our property and contribute to the wellness of our communities.

We are asking the city government to revise and reverse this ordinance, thus ensuring the rights of property owners are adequately respected and protected. Signing this petition will provide a clear message to our leaders, showing them that we, as citizens, value our rights and freedoms. Please sign this today and support our request for change.

Hello Galt Residents, Thank you for raising your views on this issue and I have seen the petition. The issue also came up at a recent city council meeting. While I understand and am open to considering revising this ordinance, there is a proper protocol and process that must be undertaken. This includes getting this issue included as an agenda item on a future city council meeting and specific ordinance proposals for the council to weigh pros and cons. Thanks again for raising this issue and look forward to continuing the discussion. Paul Sandhu, Galt City Council Member
