Repeal Florida Gubernatorial Term Limits

Repeal Florida Gubernatorial Term Limits
The Issue
A petition to repeal the following section of the Florida Constitution: "No person who has, or but for resignation would have, served as governor or acting governor for more than six years in two consecutive terms shall be elected governor for the succeeding term."
Term limits are inherently undemocratic, most especially on a state and local level because it is punitive to good governance and a disincentive to that end. The will of the people ultimately decide if a man should attain and remain in office. If the majority will of the Floridian people wish a man to remain in the office of Governor beyond two terms than that will should be headed. Term limits can be understood to an extent on the Federal level as to protect disapproving states from a third presidential term of a man whom they deem detrimental to the welfare of their state, yet being approved of by the majority of the states. In this way alone, as a means of forcing new opinions on the Federal level for all the states, can term limits be understood. However, on the state level term limits becomes a shackle on the will of the people and a disincentive to good steady and reliable governance but instead a plank in the ladder to higher office. Governing, a state of millions or tens of millions of people is not a four to eight year job, rather it is a lifetime endeavor that is only curtailed by a disapproving popular majority. When a constitution limits governance to two terms or less it creates a volatile and partisan atmosphere the moment a popular governor can no longer serve. In this respect the State of Florida and the Floridian people would be well rewarded and satisfied in the repeal of this portion of our state constitution.
The time to act is now, we have two years left of an unprecedentedly popular governor. Who could replace him? Do you wish to lose him now after he has guided Florida steadily for six soon to be eight years? Act now, defend your right as the people to retain in office whom you believe deserves to be in office.
