Repave Salem Court for Safety in Michigan City
Repave Salem Court for Safety in Michigan City
The Issue
Living in Woodland East Apartments, Salem Court isn't just an address—it's the lifeline for many, including myself. As a disabled tenant, I've personally faced frightening situations that underline the urgent need for repair. Sadly, I'm not alone. The street has become a perilous path not only for residents but for children, the elderly, and everyone who relies on it. Imagine trying to traverse Salem Court daily, confronting 51 visible areas of damage. Each defect isn't simply an inconvenience; it's a torment that poses life-threatening risks.
The street's condition affects more than our residents. The Michigan City Transit Service, which is crucial for many of us, struggles with the hazardous terrain. Just like us, even they can feel every jolt from the road's countless imperfections. Public services, including paramedics, police, and medical transportation, are hindered, potentially delaying crucial response times during emergencies. The safety of our community cannot be compromised any longer.
I've witnessed improvements on Lafayette Street and Carroll Avenue, proof that positive change is possible. We need the city's attention on Salem Court before a tragedy strikes. By investing in our infrastructure, Michigan City can ensure that Salem Court is not just another road but a safe passage for those who depend on it every day. We know this can be done; we've seen it happen elsewhere in our city. It’s time for us to act and bring the same level of safety and accessibility to our street.
Join us in urging Michigan City officials to prioritize the repaving of Salem Court for the safety and well-being of every resident and visitor. Sign this petition and ensure that our collective voice is heard, demanding necessary change for a safer community.
