Repave Roads in McGill Crossings

The Issue

My name is Liz Lane and I live in McGill Court in Hoover, Alabama. We bought our home almost six years ago. Houses were being constructed all around us, and the builders, Embassy and Ridgecrest, stated that money was set aside in bonds for the road to be paved when construction was completed.

This made sense, and for six years, we have left it at that. However, we have lived in other new construction neighborhoods and houses were completed in a year or two. This neighborhood has been under construction for eight years and the roads are almost undrivable.

We are a gated community, which is why the builder is responsible for our road.

Our neighborhood is divided into estate lots on one side of Ross Bridge Parkway, and the crossings section on the other, which is where our home is located.  On the estate side opposite they have repaved the side where construction has been completed. Our side is also complete, but no work has been done.

Residents of the community have contacted the builders over and over again, and we have had almost no response.

When you first enter the neighborhood from Ross Bridge Parkway, before you reach the gate, there is a giant pothole. I turn in very slowly and angle almost all the way to the curb so that I miss it, because I’m sure it would destroy my tires if I hit it. The lighting at this intersection is also almost non-existent, and I worry about cars that are not used to this turn damaging their vehicles.

Once you enter the neighborhood, on the left cul-de-sac, there is a manhole that is so high above the ground it has already caused an accident. Someone went over it and their airbag inflated. It is dangerous.

The road is so bad that I feel that it is decreasing our property value as well as making our neighborhood unlivable.

We have had many other issues with these builders, and the builders have dodged the residents at every point. While they were once Embassy and Ridgecrest, they changed names to Enbridge recently. Hunter Homes is apparently now responsible for building on the remaining lots.

I’m a brick and mortar business owner in the Hoover community and love our city. I know these builders should be held accountable for neglect. The city must put pressure on these builders immediately for the welfare of its residence.
