The Issue

Powhatan Beach Road in Pasadena, Maryland has been left in poor condition for far too long. The road is cracked, uneven, and deteriorating — creating safety hazards for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and school buses that use it daily. Residents are frustrated and concerned for their safety and vehicle damage caused by the worsening pavement.

Daily commuters, families, and school children rely on Powhatan Beach Road for their transportation needs. Instead of feeling secure on our roads, we are now constantly worried about the risk of accidents and the extra costs of vehicle repairs due to the poor maintenance of this critical community road. It's alarming to think that we may have to wait until 2029 for this vital road to be repaved.

This issue cannot be put off any longer. The degradation of the road continues to worsen, and the costs required for repairs will only increase over time. Moreover, the current state of the road is a ticking time bomb for potentially devastating accidents, posing threats not only to property but also to lives.

We call upon Anne Arundel County Council and local authorities to prioritize the immediate repaving of Powhatan Beach Road. By acting now, we can prevent further deterioration, reduce the risk of road accidents, and ensure a safe passage for all vehicles and pedestrians.

Our Request
We respectfully ask Anne Arundel County to:

  • Reevaluate the pavement condition of Powhatan Beach Road immediately.
  • Reconsider its Pavement Condition Index (PCI) rating in light of current damage.
  • Move its resurfacing date forward from 2029 to the earliest possible fiscal year.

Repaving Powhatan Beach Road would not only address immediate safety concerns but would also enhance our community's overall quality of life, boosting property values and ensuring dependable road access for future generations.

Together, let's urge our local government to expedite this process before it's too late. Please sign this petition to demand that Powhatan Beach Road be repaved urgently, and not left to wait until 2029. Your signature can make a difference and bring the needed attention to solve this crisis.
