Repair the Canfield St Bridge

Repair the Canfield St Bridge
The Issue
MDOT has let the pedestrian bridges all over Detroit fall into disrepair to the point that they have had to close many due to safety concerns. In the past few years, at least four pedestrian bridges have been closed or demolished over the Lodge in Midtown and Downtown. This has resulted in residents and families having to walk significantly longer distances or crossing on busy bridges with dangerous slip lanes.
In Midtown specifically, the closure of the Canfield St bridge has cut a vital link between parks, shops, restaurants, and the local elementary school. Kids as young as five no longer have a safe route to school due to MDOT’s neglect.
We want the legislature to pass a bill to fund the necessary repairs to these bridges and reopen these vital community links.
