The Issue

Driving down Carmi Rd in Penticton has become a nerve-wracking experience for many residents and visitors. As someone who frequently uses this route, We've encountered numerous instances where the faded lines make it extremely difficult to discern the separation between the two lanes, particularly at night or during adverse weather conditions. The absence of clear road demarcations is not just an inconvenience, it's a significant safety hazard.

Carmi Rd serves as a key thoroughfare amd the only routei into Penticton, connecting the neighborhood and facilitating the daily commute of residents. It's a route that school buses travel, children are driven to activities, emergency vehicles,  and professionals speed off to work. Ensuring the safety of everyone who travels on this road is not just necessary but urgent.

Accidents are more likely when drivers cannot see where their lane ends and another begins. According to the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), clear road markings are vital for preventing traffic collisions and ensuring road safety, yet the lines on Carmi Rd have worn away to the point where their absence poses a tangible danger.

By repainting the road lines with bright, reflective materials, we can greatly improve visibility and reduce the risk of accidents. This improvement will not only benefit drivers but also bicyclists and pedestrians who share the road. Additionally, upgrading these markings will align with the community's efforts to enhance road safety and maintenance standards.

Let's urge the municipal authorities to prioritize this straightforward yet impactful change. It's about protecting our community and ensuring peace of mind for everyone traveling in and around Penticton.

Please sign this petition to demonstrate our collective need for immediate action. Together, we can make Carmi Rd a safer path for all.
