The Issue

With great regard to the value of sports and community, we, represented by coaches, players, and parents involved in the Essex County Boy's and Girl's High School Tennis Championships, are seeking a reconfiguration and repainting of the last bank of courts at the Althea Gibson Center in Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ.

This reconfiguration involves the swapping of the existing tennis (2) and pickleball (4) courts locations. The former positioning of the tennis courts in years past, which allowed for a clear view of 6 courts from the spectators area , not only cultivated a spirit of fierce competition but also championed an atmosphere that was unparalleled across the state.

Making these changes aligns with our shared goal of nurturing and promoting talent in the region while preserving the charm and significance of the Althea Gibson Center - a beloved community landmark.

With your support, we can reshape the journey for many young athletes and collectively enhance our sporting community by bringing this essential change to our local sporting infrastructure. Please sign this petition to show your endorsement for the reorganization and repainting of the courts at Althea Gibson Tennis Center.
