The Issue

Rajani and David have been the heart and soul of the Broadway Market post office for many years. Commuting daily from south-west London, they work long 12-hour days to ensure that our local community has access to essential postal services.

At 4am on the morning of 10th July that all changed when the landlord forcibly entered the property, changed the locks and booted them out of their shop.

During lockdown the post office was forced to shut for 18 months while the landlord carried out refurbishment works. Since moving back in, Rajani and David have paid their rent in full and on time, including a recent quarterly payment covering July-October 2026. However, the landlord is now unfairly demanding Rajani and David pay backdated rent for the 18 month period when the shop was shut, and has taken possession of the shop and changed the locks to stop them opening, even though they have paid rent for the next 3 months! This is not simply a dispute over one business premises; it reflects a wider pattern of commercial mistreatment in which tenants are placed under immense financial pressure by landlords who exploit their position with little regard for the livelihoods they threaten or the communities that depend on them.

How you can help

The decision by the landlord to close this post office leaves the community without easy access to postal services. Reopening the Broadway Market post office would not only restore the essential services we have come to rely on but also preserve the communal spirit that Rajani and David have fostered. We urge the powers that be to see the irreplaceable value of this post office to our community and the surrounding areas, and to challenge landlords who seek profit at the expense of local communities and hard working people.

Please sign this petition to support the reopening of the Broadway Market post office and show support for Rajani and David who have served the community tirelessly over the years.  Every signature will demonstrate the strength of community support for Rajani and David and help urge the landlord, the Post Office and local representatives to work towards a fair resolution that allows the Broadway Market Post Office to reopen.
