The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Attorney General Chris Carr to immediately intervene and reopen the case of Jalyne Evans-Jones through an independent investigation into the handling of her shooting and the subsequent failure of justice.

⚖️ Why This Matters:

On August 13, 2023, Jalyne Evans-Jones—a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother—was shot multiple times by her upstairs neighbor at Veranda Apartments in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The unprovoked attack left her with permanent injuries to her hand, wrist, abdomen, liver, and intestines. She survived—but her fight for justice has been a second trauma.

Despite the severity of this violent act, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office failed to pursue felony charges and instead allowed the assailant to walk away with only a misdemeanor. Jalyne was never notified of hearings, denied the right to speak, and excluded from key decisions, in direct violation of Georgia’s Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights (O.C.G.A. § 17-17-9).

There is no justice in a system where a disabled Black woman is ignored, injured, and discarded.

🧾 Legal Avenues Available:

We are not asking for a favor—we are demanding that the law be followed.

🔹 Attorney General Chris Carr has the legal authority under O.C.G.A. § 45-15-35 to review or initiate investigations into legal misconduct by public officials, including District Attorneys.

🔹 Governor Brian Kemp is empowered by O.C.G.A. § 15-18-6 to appoint a special prosecutor when a DA has neglected their duty or compromised public trust.

Both offices have a clear path to intervene. Yet, to date, no action has been taken.

What We Are Demanding:

We urge the Governor and Attorney General to:

 • ✅ Initiate a full and independent investigation into the Gwinnett DA’s handling of the Jalyne Evans-Jones case

 • ✅ Hold the DA’s Office accountable for any violations of state law or misconduct

 • ✅ Ensure victim rights are honored and justice is delivered—not denied

📢 Your Voice Matters:

Jalyne’s voice was stolen when she was shot. We will not let it be silenced again.

Sign this petition to stand with Jalyne, the Jones family, and all victims who have been ignored by a broken system. Share this petition widely to demand the leadership, transparency, and accountability Georgia citizens deserve.

Let’s send a clear message to those in power:

We will not tolerate injustice. We demand answers. We demand action.
