As a resident of Sanibel, FL, I am deeply saddened by the closure of our beloved fishing pier. According to data from the Florida Department of Tourism, millions of visitors flock to our island each year with many citing fishing as one of their main activities during their stay (Florida Department of Tourism). The closure of this popular spot could potentially impact local businesses that rely on tourism for revenue.

Moreover, recreational fishing contributes significantly to Florida's economy.
