In 2023, the courts were temporarily closed for maintenance work on the water lines running underneath them. However, it's been two years now, and the city has fenced off the area. According to the city there is no plan to reopen these courts. 

The alternatives offered to us like the single half court at Castlebury Park and Norm Jary are just not feasible options, especially for children who can't get to Norm Jary easily. Closing this facility has actually diminished opportunities for physical activity for the community. 

According to the World Health Organisation, such physical activity is crucial in preventing childhood obesity and particular diseases in the future. We request the city to revisit this decision and reopen the basketball courts at Deerpath Park.
