The Issue

As a group of invested local residents and fishing enthusiasts, we find it paramount to re-open Springton Reservoir for fishing. For more than two decades, since the early 2000s, a generation of young sportsmen and women have been denied access to this reservoir because of terrorism fears. This restriction has led to limited places where children and young adults can learn and enjoy the art of fishing, preventing new generations from inheriting and appreciating this wholesome outdoor activity.

Fishing is not merely a sport but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in nature, promote environmental stewardship, and encourage healthy living. Therefore, it’s essential to provide more spaces for it within our local society. After nearly 25 years of closure, it's time to open this beautiful reservoir back up, inviting citizens to relish in the serenity of fishing and other outdoor activities.

We urge the relevant authorities to reevaluate the fishing restrictions on Springton Reservoir. Through rational discourse and action, we believe the safety concerns can be addressed adequately. Moving forward with reopening would serve as a major victory for young aspiring sports enthusiasts and the community as a whole.

Support our noble initiative. Let’s open up the Springton Reservoir for fishing and offer our children and future generations the chance to connect with the great outdoors like never before. Let our children cast their lines into the tranquil waters of Springton lake. Please sign and share this petition. It is time to make our voices heard!
