The Issue

The Volunteer Committee from communities including Norwood, Westwood and Wrentham lead by Tony Mazzucco, General Manager, Town of Norwood, Steve Costello, Jack McCarthy, Rick Roche, Gerry Lorusso and Mike Connors are seeking your support for Bill H.5192 ( https://malegislature.gov/Bills/194/H5192 ) filed by
State Representative John H. Rogers and State Senator Michael F. Rush aimed at helping to reopen a regional hospital to serve our communities collective healthcare needs.  We are also grateful to
Congressman Stephen Lynch for his on-going support of this effort. Their leadership highlights the importance of restoring this vital healthcare resource for our region.

When Norwood Hospital closed after the devastating June 28, 2020 flood, 250,000 residents across our 12 communities suddenly lost access to local emergency and hospital care. This legislation recognizes that our statewide elected representatives are no longer willing to wait for private property owners to restore the emergency and inpatient care our communities deserve.

For generations, the former Norwood Hospital served as a lifeline for families throughout Norwood, Walpole, Dedham, Westwood, Canton, Sharon, Foxborough, Medfield, Dover, Mansfield, Norfolk, and Wrentham. Since its closure, residents have been forced to travel farther for emergency services, surgeries, and everyday medical care, placing increased strain on neighboring hospitals and creating serious concerns about emergency response times.

Access to healthcare close to home is essential for the safety and well-being of our communities. Seniors, families with children, and patients with ongoing medical needs should not have to worry about longer travel times during emergencies or delays in receiving care.

We now urge Governor Maura Healey, Chair of the Massachusetts House Committee of Ways and Means Aaron Michlewitz, Speaker Mariano, Senate President Spilka, and Senate Ways and Means Chairman Rodrigues, members of the Massachusetts Legislature, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to actively support the legislative, regulatory, and community efforts needed to reopen a full-service regional hospital at

the site of the former Norwood Hospital as quickly and responsibly as possible. We thank all of them for their efforts on behalf of our communities.

State leaders must work collaboratively with healthcare providers, local officials, and community stakeholders to remove barriers and prioritize restoring this critical hospital for the region.

A new regional hospital will strengthen healthcare access, support public safety, and restore an essential resource that our communities have depended on for decades. This legislation will not only benefit our communities but should provide relief to area hospitals’ emergency care response time and critically needed inpatient beds.

Healthcare close to home saves lives!

If you live in Norwood, Walpole, Dedham, Westwood, Canton, Sharon, Foxborough, Medfield, Dover, Mansfield, Norfolk, Wrentham, we strongly encourage you to sign this petition and share it with your friends, neighbors, and local leaders so together we can bring a full-service regional hospital back into our communities. You can sign with your name and town (which is preferred) or indicate support and remain anonymous.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST AND SUPPORT! Any questions please feel free to contact Mike Connors at mlconnors58@gmail.com .
