As a concerned parent residing in Munster Hamlet, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, I am writing this petition to address a pressing issue that affects our community deeply. The closure of Munster Elementary School in 2015 has had a detrimental impact on our children's education and overall well-being. It is time to take action and demand the reopening of this essential educational institution.

Many community members, myself included have witnessed the hardships that our children face on a daily basis due to the closure of Munster Elementary School. Our kids are forced to endure long bus rides averaging 45 minutes each way when they pass by their own school multiple times during these journeys. This not only wastes valuable time but also takes a toll on their physical and mental well-being.

 

The lack of available bus drivers exacerbates this problem further. With limited transportation options, many children will be unable to attend school come September.  Parents will need to adjust their work schedules or find alternative means of transportation. This places an unnecessary burden on families and disrupts the stability and routine that are crucial for our children's academic success.

 

It is important to note that the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) made the decision to close Munster Elementary School due to low enrollment at that time. However, it is worth mentioning that one significant factor contributing to this decline was OCDSB's failure to offer early French immersion programs at Munster School.

 

We believe it is unjustifiable for our community's educational needs and opportunities for growth to be compromised due to past decisions made without considering all relevant factors. By reopening Munster Elementary School, we can provide quality education closer to home while ensuring equal access for all students in our area.

 

The benefits of reopening Munster Elementary School:

1) Proximity: Reopening Munster Elementary School will significantly reduce travel time for our children, allowing them to spend more time on their studies, extracurricular activities, and spending quality time with their families.
