I am deeply concerned about the recent closure of Leisure and Culture Dundee's tabletop gaming clubs. For many local children in Dundee, these clubs provided more than just a place to play games like Warhammer and Dungeons & Dragons; they were a haven of creativity, friendship, and learning.

For years, these clubs have been a cornerstone for our community's youth, offering them a safe and supportive environment to engage in imaginative play, develop social skills, and form lasting friendships. By participating in these games, children learn valuable lessons in strategic thinking, collaboration, and empathy—all while having fun.

The sudden closure of these clubs has left a significant void in their lives. Without this vital outlet, children are losing out on the positive experiences and interactions these clubs uniquely offer. It is not just about playing games; it is about providing a space where children can be themselves, bond with their peers, and build self-esteem.

Leisure and Culture Dundee’s decision to close these clubs has risked denying our community's young people these invaluable opportunities for growth and development. Meanwhile, studies have shown that engaging in structured recreational activities can have profound benefits on mental health and social well-being, particularly for young people. 

We urge Leisure and Culture Dundee to reconsider and reopen these tabletop gaming clubs. Doing so would not only restore these benefits for our children but would also reaffirm the community’s commitment to nurturing the interests and talents of its younger members.
