Reopen Kingswood Library in Kingswood Estate

The Issue

Kingswood Library inside Kingswood House in the Kingswood Estate, in the Upper Norwood/South Dulwich/Sydenham Hill area has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

Recently the whole of Kingswood House has been put out to tender offers but nothing announced. Also a order and collect shop open two short afternoons a week has been set up on Seeley Drive. From the order and collect shop the public can order library books.

We think we desperately need and deserve a library back at Kingswood House on the estate, a library has been in the area for many years and serves a large council estate community and wider housing estates which have very few resources in the local vacinity.

Libraries can be a lifeline for people, they can have:
Early years literacy, rhyme storytime sessions and entertainment
Reading for pleasure facillities
Enquiry services
Newspapers and magazines
Much needed computers for the digitally excluded
Space for children, teenagers and adults alike to study
Somewhere warm to sit
and much much more at the heart of the community.

The Southwark Labour manifesto has suggested a future of 'a library service on the Kingswood Estate'. We need to know this will be a fully funded statutory good quality service that local residents desperately need and deserve. We dont know what other council candidates are suggesting as have not heard so far.

Please sign this petition to support us and query your Dulwich Wood/other local councillors and politicians why we have done without this essential service for so long.
