Reopen Investigation into Sean Turnbull's Death by Marshalltown Police Department

Reopen Investigation into Sean Turnbull's Death by Marshalltown Police Department
The Issue
My father, Sean Turnbull, passed away under suspicious circumstances over five years ago. Despite being a beloved member of our community—where he was known as a son, brother, uncle, great-uncle, cousin, dad, and friend to many—his case has been left untouched. Sean had just became a grandfather months before his life tragically ended. His family, friends, and I have been placed in a state of continual uncertainty and suffering because of this appalling lack of response, with no arrests and no answers.
Almost six years have come and gone
Still nothing has been done
No one arrested, no one serving time
Has he been forgotten?
How can this be.
Do we pretend that it's okay
No matter what he did or was,
His life mattered to those he knew and loved.
He was his mother's only son,
His three children's only father
His grandchildren that he will never hold
His sisters their younger and only brother
Who became their defender/protector
His nephews and nieces their only uncle
Close enough in age to the oldest they were childhood playmates
More an older brother than uncle ,lastly the remaining male role model as Tate had always been his
His countless cousins, aunts and uncles.
His many friends and loved ones.
For those that did not know him,
Let me introduce you to my brother ,
Sean Eric Turnbull Oct. 25 1969 to Sept. 04 2019
May he someday rest in peace
Was he perfect and without sin? No he was not, just like anyone else on this planet he had flaws and short comings
Was he rich and famous? No he was not, but he would give his last dollar to anyone that asked for it- no questions asked.
Was he lazy, no good and lived off the system? No he did not.
He was a hard working man that did many jobs most wont,
from roofing to baling hay, to yard work, minor home repairs to junkin' scrap metal he was always working at something
Did he play as hard as he worked? Yes he did, he loved to fish, camp, hunt, play cards, rides at carnivals/fairs, race cars and dance.
Was he a pillar of the community? No he was not, but he often donated to many community causes. Provided food for many weddings, funerals and parties.
Was he a Rhodes scholar? No he was not. Many don't know he was dyslexic and had trouble reading, but throw a column of numbers at him and he knew the total when you finished saying them.
And he was as street smart as they come. He knew a vast amount of people from all walks of life.
Was he an upstanding law abiding citizen? No he was not,
He often (as he said) bent the rules to provide for or to help others.
More than once I heard him called a modern day Robin Hood.
Was he dishonest and a cheat? No he was not, he was honest and loyal to those he loved and knew were loyal to him
Was he religious and attended church every Sunday? No he did not
Yet he believed in and had a spiritual relationship with God.
Was he greedy and selfish? No he was not, he would literally give a man the shirt off his back or give away his groceries if someone needed food then come to borrow for his own family.
Did anyone ever go hungry when he was around? No they did not, he had his father - Bob Turnbull's gift of turning almost nothing into a delicious meal for many
Was he mean and hateful? No he was not, unless you did harm to him, his family or friends. Then beware
Was he disrespectful towards women and children? Not that I am aware of.
Did he have a motto? Yes he did, he always said" one mans trash is another mans treasure,
Did he have enemies? Apparently so, although I never heard anyone that knew him say a bad word about him.
Almost six years have come and gone
Still nothing has been done
No one arrested, no one serving time
Has he been forgotten?
How can this be.
Do we pretend that it's okay
No matter what he did or was,
His life mattered to those he knew and loved.
Did anyone have the right to end his life? No, only the good Lord holds that power.
Should someone be held accountable and pay for taking his life?
I think so. This being said : if anyone knows anything at all related to the circumstances resulting in Sean's death, I beg of you -PLEASE inform the Marshalltown Police Department ASAP
Sean deserves some justice and his children deserve some closure.
Thank you.
Sean Turnbull deserves justice, and we, his family and friends, deserve the clarity that will allow us to fully mourn his loss. The Marshalltown Police Department must reopen the investigation into his death, approach it with the urgency it deserves, and provide us with the answers that we have been waiting for so long.
