As a parent of two young soccer enthusiasts, the closure of Grant Field at Memorial Park in Maywood has hit our family hard. Our children, along with many others who participate in the MYAA soccer program, have been forced to travel for all home games since the field's closure. This was an unexpected burden placed on us by the town's lack of transparency about their plans.

In August 2023, Grant Field was closed to install a new sprinkler system and renovate the fields. The project is now complete but despite this, our only public field remains closed for soccer activities indefinitely. This decision affects not only my children but also hundreds of other young athletes who rely on this space.

The residents of Maywood funded these renovations with their tax dollars and deserve access to this public amenity. We are calling on our town officials and Mayor to reopen Grant Field for MYAA athletics in spring 2024.

We believe that sports play a crucial role in building character and fostering community spirit among our youth. By denying them access to local facilities, we are hindering their growth and development.
