The closure of the school has created significant challenges for potential and upcoming students, including long days, complicated commutes, limited access to extracurricular opportunities, and increased strain on families. Reopening Ewell School would restore our access to quality, local education and help ensure that children on Smith Island have the same opportunities as their peers on the mainland. It would also strengthen our community by encouraging families to remain on the island, supporting local sustainability, and preserving the unique cultural heritage of Smith Island.
